 …”The Hocus-Pocus”

Nothing wrong with a little “Hocus-Pocus”…especially when it comes to fishing for those big saltwater tagging rainbows…  This is another pattern for salmon or steelhead…its that time of year!…this one is tied with single #1’s or double 2’s and 4’s…its got some characteristics of a “carron” style, but it also is more about using the natural colors of the guinea hen feather for its main emphasis…the goose biot tail is tied on upside down to accent the curve of the guinea wing. The throat or “drops” are made from some dyed mallard flanks…they are sold as “golden wood duck”, many different colors here could be cool…even a grizzly hackle would be a good choice…The Throat is tied underneath the shank behind the eye, so the possibilities are numerous. I pulled down a few barbs from the wing too before I tightened down “all the way” on the flanks, to give it a few more legs…it is a shrimp imitation…

This fly is in my case for a trip to the Deschutes later this year…as with many of these steelhead fly’s there is no doubt it would be a great pattern, for some big trout too.
